Thing1 is an avid reader. So much so that I have a hard time finding books for him to read that are challenging enough to not be boring, but still appropriate content for his age level.
Because of his superior reading ability, the following tidbit came as a surprise. One day when we were driving on the highway near our house, passing a billboard we have passed a million times (so much so that I don't even register seeing it), and Thing1 says from the backseat:
"Mom - What in the world is a vast economy and why is it on a billboard?"
For once in all my homeschooling years, I was never happier than in that moment that my son misread something.
You see, the billboard has NOTHING to do with a vast economy and everything to do with VASECTOMY. (which is written in gigantic letters across the top of the billboard, followed by a relatively creepy picture of the doctor who performs the procedure and a phone number)
"Gee, son... that's a puzzling question. I have no idea why they are advertising for the economy. Oh wow! I love this song on the radio - lets turn it up and sing really loud!!"
