Shave for a Haircut

My boys have always had long hair. Its adorable, sloppy cute, and it allows me to be lazy extra time between haircuts. But Thing3 has been asking to have his hair "like a rolling ball" (aka bowling ball) for awhile now. I have been ignoring it because I'm selfish I think its so cute longer!  He also some texture issues and he has never been a big fan of hair touching him. To this point, it's been mostly my hair. But yesterday he had an all-out freak attack because his hair was on his face. He was clawing at his face and yelling. I happened to be at the house of a really good friend who gave me the push to "just do it" and shave it off.

The before:
He's super excited to be saying goodbye to that adorable but annoying hair.

Lest you think that I was not freaking out about this:
That's me...peeking through my fingers at the tragedy about to unfold.
(and Thing1 laughing at my freak out)

The after:

He's so excited that the hair is gone that he can hardly contain himself - or be still long enough for me to get a non-blurry picture!

I should add that when we finished, he reached up and touched his head and said, "Its not all gone mommy! Its not a rolling ball!" I had to show him what it looked like to get him to believe me that it was short enough. He is not going to be all shiny-bald-headed at three years old. In another 60 years, maybe. :) I can rub it back and make it spike up all cute, but he hates that too. Oh well... maybe he'll start a trend or something...

The positives include no more freak outs about hair on his face/neck/skin and I will have a really long time before I am forced to cut it again.  The downside is that I keep wondering "Who is THAT kid?" especially from behind. The baby isn't too sure who he is either, but the older two think its adorable. We'll see what his friends think at church on Sunday!
